A free TTF to WOFF2 converter that runs in your browser

Most online font converters upload your files to a server, limit how many you can convert in an hour, and hold the rest behind a paid plan. This TTF to WOFF2 converter works on your own device instead. Drop up to 50 fonts at once, TTF and OTF mixed, and each one is converted with Google's WOFF2 library running in your browser, with no sign-up and no hourly limit.

It does for fonts what a bulk PNG to WebP converter does for images: the same content in a much smaller file, ready for the web.

Why WOFF2 makes websites faster

WOFF2 is the font format built for the web. It compresses the font's data with Brotli and stores the glyph outlines in a more compact way, so the same typeface downloads far faster than a TTF. In our own test, Arial went from a 1 MB TTF to a 424 KB WOFF2, 58% smaller, with every glyph intact. Smaller fonts mean text appears sooner, especially on mobile data.

If your site uses an icon font only for a handful of symbols, you can often drop it entirely: an SVG to JSX converter turns the icons you actually use into lightweight components, and your remaining text fonts load even faster.

Ready @font-face CSS for every font

Converting the file is only half the job; you still have to write the CSS. For every converted font, the tool reads the real family name, weight and style from inside the font and writes a matching @font-face rule with font-display: swap, so text stays visible while the font loads. Copy one rule, or copy the CSS for all fonts at once. The ZIP download includes the same rules as a fonts.css file.

If an AI assistant edits your stylesheets, put your font rules in a rules file for AI coding tools so it keeps using your self-hosted WOFF2 files instead of inventing new font links.

OTF to WOFF2, and WOFF2 back to TTF

The converter accepts TrueType (TTF) and OpenType with CFF outlines (OTF), as well as WOFF and WOFF2 files. Choose WOFF2 for modern websites, WOFF for very old browsers, or TTF/OTF to turn a web font back into a file you can install on your computer. OpenType fonts keep their CFF outlines, so an OTF stays an OTF when converted back.

See every font before you download it

Each converted font appears in a live preview rendered with the font itself, together with its family, style, weight, number of glyphs and the size saved. Type your own text in the preview box to check special characters, numbers or your brand name before you add the font to a project. Font collections (.ttc) aren't supported; extract the single fonts first.

Self-host your fonts with confidence

Serving WOFF2 files from your own site, instead of linking to a third-party font service, keeps your pages working if that service changes and avoids sending visitors' requests elsewhere. Outside platforms can change their plans quickly, as developers saw when the Cloudflare and Deno deal set an end date for a popular hosting service. Owning your font files is one less thing that can break.

Converting a font doesn't change its licence. Free fonts under the SIL Open Font License can usually be converted and self-hosted, while many commercial fonts need a separate web licence. Check the licence before you publish, and because nothing is uploaded here, licensed fonts never touch someone else's server during conversion.

WOFF vs WOFF2 vs TTF: which should you use?

For websites, use WOFF2: every current browser supports it and it gives the smallest files. WOFF is only worth adding as a fallback for very old browsers. Keep TTF or OTF for installing fonts on a computer and for design apps. Older CSS snippets that also list EOT and SVG fonts are a leftover from the early 2010s; you don't need them today.

AI chatbots still suggest those outdated font stacks surprisingly often, so check any CSS they write before using it. Trusting such answers without checking is a big part of why most people use AI wrong.

Private by design

Your fonts are read and converted inside your browser tab, and the new files are created there too. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters for fonts you've paid for. If your project also needs crisp graphics, our SVG to PNG converter works the same way, like all of our free online tools.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert TTF to WOFF2?

Drop your TTF file on the box above and keep WOFF2 selected. The font converts automatically; click Download, or download all fonts plus a fonts.css file as a ZIP.

Can I convert OTF to WOFF2?

Yes. OTF fonts with CFF outlines are supported and converted to WOFF2 with their outlines kept, and you can convert them back to OTF later.

How much smaller is WOFF2 than TTF?

It depends on the font, but large savings are common. In our test, Arial shrank from a 1 MB TTF to a 424 KB WOFF2, about 58% smaller, with all glyphs kept.

Can I convert WOFF2 back to TTF?

Yes. Choose TTF / OTF as the output format and drop your WOFF2 or WOFF file. You'll get a font you can install on your computer.

Does it create the @font-face CSS?

Yes. Each font gets a ready @font-face rule with its real family name, weight, style and font-display: swap. Copy it, or get it as fonts.css in the ZIP.

Is it legal to convert my font to WOFF2?

Converting doesn't change the licence. Open-source fonts can usually be converted and self-hosted; many commercial fonts need a web licence, so check before publishing.

Are my fonts uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with Google's WOFF2 encoder on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
